Dr. David Young provides qualitative market research for a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, and consumer products and services.  He draws upon his twenty-five years as a researcher, psychologist, and human-factors engineer to design and implement targeted, innovative research for his client base.

David received his Ph.D. in Research Psychology from the University of California, Irvine.  He is also a faculty member in Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine where he continues his long-term commitment to The Doctor-Patient Relationship course for incoming medical students.

Prior to his career as market researcher, David was employed as a licensed Clinical Psychologist for over a decade where he gained extensive experience treating neurology and psychiatry patients.  David's educational and clinical background provides him with the ability to understand medical terminology, managed healthcare issues, as well as the concerns of doctors, patients, and pharmaceutical manufacturers.  He capitalizes on this experience to develop comprehensive and insightful research for his medical and pharmaceutical clients.

David has also worked as an Engineer/Programmer in the area of systems-engineering and as a Human-Factors Engineer where his research resulted in design recommendations for radar and sonar display formats.  As a government employee, he was also responsible for configuring a computer research laboratory for the U.S. Navy.  This experience has proved to be a valuable asset in working for technology-oriented clients.

David first became involved in qualitative research in 1995 when he saw the opportunity to apply his academic, research, and clinical expertise to the field of market research.  While much of David's market research has been in the category of pharmaceuticals and technology, he also maintains an active involvement in consumer-oriented products and services as well.

With his research background, clinical training, and medical experience, David offers a unique sensitivity to his clients' needs.  His understanding of people, his knowledge of projective techniques, and his extensive interviewing skills enhance his ability to get to the root of target attitudes and motivations.  David not only designs and implements innovative research to address difficult qualitative research issues; he is acutely aware of the importance of integrating the human-factor element within each of his projects.

Dr. Young has been an invited speaker at the New York Chapter of the Qualitative Research Consultant Association, the California Chapter of the Market Research Association, and the Casey Journalism Center for Children and Families at the University of Maryland.  David maintains a strong interest in marine biology and marine ecology and is an avid outdoor and underwater photographer.
